Bearings are graded by ABEC (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) or a skate-specific scale like ILQ — higher numbers mean tighter tolerances and a smoother spin. For most skaters, a quality ABEC 5/7 or ILQ bearing is the sweet spot of speed and durability.

Steel vs ceramic

Steel bearings are the everyday choice — reliable, affordable and easy to maintain. Ceramic bearings run faster, cooler and resist rust, ideal for speed and distance skaters willing to pay more.

Care & spacers

Keep bearings clean and lightly oiled and they’ll last for years. Most inline wheels also use spacers between the bearings for a stable, rattle-free spin.
